LegalSense alternative: a factual comparison

Considering a modern successor to LegalSense? This page lays out the main differences: technology, AI, pricing, support and migration. We keep it factual and respectful — LegalSense is an established vendor with a long track record in the Dutch legal profession.

Factual: LegalSense was acquired in October 2025 by US private-equity firm Alpine Investors. Impact on product roadmap, pricing and support is for the new owner to communicate.

Migration in 4 steps

Operational within 5 business days on average; parallel run until your firm is comfortable.

Day 1
Export & analysis

You provide a LegalSense export. We analyze data model, users and open items.

Day 2
Import & mapping

Clients, matters, entries, disbursements and invoices are imported. Rate cards and roles are mapped.

Days 3–4
Configuration & training

Invoice templates, calendar sync, AML settings. Short training for fee earners (60 min) and admin (90 min).

Day 5+
Parallel run

You work in LegalTime; LegalSense stays readable. After 2–4 weeks you cut over fully.

Switch service

You pick the date, we handle the rest. Our migration specialists import clients, matters, hours and open items from LegalSense. Then both systems run in parallel for two to four weeks so your fee earners can adapt calmly.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an objective comparison?

We rely on publicly available information and our own product facts. For LegalSense specifics, refer to their documentation for the latest state. Spot an inaccuracy? Email hallo@legaltime.nl and we'll correct it.

How long does switching take?

For a firm of 3–20 fee earners, you're typically operational within 5 business days (data migration, configuration, first training), followed by a 2–3 week parallel run until your firm has fully moved over. Fiscal year-end is a popular moment but not required.

What happens to our historical hours and invoices?

We import all historical hours, matters, clients and open items from a LegalSense (or other package) export. Historical data stays searchable and reportable.

What does the Alpine Investors acquisition mean for existing LegalSense customers?

That's for LegalSense and its new owner to communicate. Historically, PE acquisitions often lead to price consolidation, roadmap revisions and support-organization changes — but no guarantees in either direction.

More billable hours, less admin.
